Another Year Another National Windsurfing Festival?

I must say this years National Windsurfing Festival was the best so far.  With over 320 competitors and great racing over the two days, Alan Cross and his team must be proud of what they have achieved for another year.

NeilPryde and JP decided to move out of the main tent for this year so we could spend more time getting people onto the new 2011 kit. Over the two days we had over 30 people try some of the new JP Board's and NeilPryde Sails, one of the best demos of the year.

SUPER LIGHT WIND 90 V154

PLANING IN ALMOST NO WIND

Planing is what makes windsurfing so fascinating. How many times did you sit on the beach thinking – there is wind but it’s just not enough to get planing.
Those times are over!

The new Super Light Wind starts planing in a wind range so far exclusively reserved for Formula windsurfing. With sheer envy we had to watch Formula riders planing when there were no white caps in sight.

After last week’s fast and furious day of racing at Club Vass, slightly lighter winds presented the opportunity for the more technical sailors to shine!

Words and pictures by Jay Haysey

Once again the day dawned quiet and tranquil here in the magnificent Bay of Vassiliki. However the morning calm was quickly replaced by a gusty Northwest wind, giving testing side shore racing conditions. With gusts up to 15kts and lulls at around the 8kt mark it proved difficult even for the best.

The slight drop in intensity meant that the competitors could sail comfortably on their preferred gear. The course layout remained the same, and the stage was set for an entertaining evening on the water.

A huge fleet of around 40 competitors from Neilson, Wildwind and Club Vass all lining up for what was once again one hell of a race! Last weeks convincing winner Niko was looking slightly nervous this time around, with the lighter winds and all of his 108kg the big man knew it was going to be a tough race to win!!

Bubble Been Down But He's Not Out!!

Hey guys!

Just a quick update to let you know where I have been and what I have been up to.  After breaking my ankle in the summer and having 4 months off the water, I was itching to get back out on the water.  I had some physio and had been doing some training for my leg in the UK but the best form of physio for me was going to be windsurfing.  So I headed out to Dahab, which was the perfect place to go, warm water, good winds and flat water.  Perfect conditions for me to start windsurfing again.

It was hard in the beginning as my leg was really working properly and was slow to react.  Getting left behind on some of the moves.  Each day I gave myself the goal of learning something new and so far so good.  I am nearly back up to sailing like I was before I broke it.  My new gear has definitely helped! The 2010 98 Freestyle is so easy for learning new tricks on.

I have been doing lots of video and pictures so expect to see some online very soon.  Next stop is Cape Town for some winter waves to help build my leg muscles and also to train some jumping moves for the Canaries Tour in the summer.  I also am going to be competing in the UK wave events next year.

Hope it’s blowing where you are!

Cheers

Bubble

Jason Polakow reports back after an amazing test and photo shoot with the new 2010 JP Australia Stand Up Paddle Boards

All Photo's credited to Jérôme Houyvet

The JP 2010 SUP shoot was something I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. I have been testing and riding all types of SUP’s for years, so when it came to helping design the new range of SUP’s with Werner Gnigler it was really easy. We wanted to design a range of boards that were easy to use in the surf but also very user friendly in all types of conditions.

After dominating the PWA 2009 Slalom season with Antoine Albeau F192 crowning himself Slalom World Champion by winning 6 out of 7 races and Micah Buzianis coming 4th JP makes the next logical step and introduces a Formula board.

The board has been developed between Mike Zajicek from California who has many years of experience in shaping and riding Formula boards, Werner Gnigler, Micah Buzianis US 34 and Antoine Albeau.

Antoine, Micah, Sebastian Kornum (2008 IFCA Junior Slalom World Champion), Enes Yilmazer TUR 2 (2009 IFCA Slalom Youth World Champion), Markus Poeltenstein AUT30 (2009 IFCA Slalom Master World Champion), Bernd Flessner (14 times German Windsurf Champion) and many more will make sure that JP will be in front also in Formula competitions in future.

The board has been tested with sails from 9,5 - 12,0 and has shown great performance in all those conditions.

Tanya Saleh reports back from Mexico

I stuck my head out the tent to see the point breaking beautifully and anticipated a day down at the Chilli Bowl - little did I know what was really in store. By mid morning it was already reasonably windy at PSC. And I headed out on a 4.2 pleasantly surprised by the larger sets over head high. After a short session I came in to tape up my feet which have been taking great pleasure in meeting with random sharp rocks before going straight back out. Soon after that I found my self totally stacked on my 4.2, someone had flicked a switch and it was windy. I held on for as long as possible then came in for lunch and to rig down.

Postcard form NeilPryde and JP Team Rider Oisin van Gelderen

HI Guys,

just a quick update, as things have been quite busy over the last couple of months.   I'm glad to report it's all wind wind wind !

In April/May I spent a lot of time hitting the West Coast of Ireland and trying to catch every good wind and swell forecast that I could get,  with a few great days in Belmullet, Donegal, Sligo and Brandon Bay.   One day while I was over in Belmullet, I got a sweet session of cross-off on 68 twinser and 4.5m, and then also got to enter the first round of the Irish Speedsailing Championships.
